Hello NCA Bears! Welcome Back! I hope you all had a wonderful break and took time to relax and enjoy. For those that completed work, I hope it was a productive time for you. Though it's not ideal, working over Fall Break is one of the best ways to get caught up. Believe it or not, the end of the semester is only three weeks away! How did that happen?! This year has certainly flown by. It's important to note that the last day to access your courses is on Friday, December 17th at 8:59pm. Anything submitted after 8:59pm on December 17th will not be accepted automatically by our Learning Management System. Dropboxes have already been adjusted to this deadline. If you find that you are struggling to get caught up or to improve your grade, NOW is the time to reach out to your teacher(s) to create a plan. While dropping and skipping assignments is no longer permitted at this time, you can work out a plan to bring your grade up to at least passing so you can earn credit. Stay focused and work hard! The end of the semester is ALMOST here! Temporary Zeros - Temporary zeros for all remaining assignments for the semester will be added in on Friday, December 3rd. This does not mean your assignments are considered overdue. You will still have access to these lessons and will still be able to submit these assignments until December 17th at 8:59pm. Adding in temporary zeros will give you an idea of what your grade would be should you not complete the remainder of the assignments. The goal is always to complete everything but, should you not be able to meet that goal, the next goal would be to get your grade up to passing so you can earn the credit for the course. Hello NCA Bears! The leaves are starting to change colors, the weather is getting colder and many are warming up with cups filled with hot cocoa/tea/coffee. Though this may look a little different depending on where you live, the season of fall is in full swing and the feeling of comfort and warmth is upon us. As the quote states above, “November is the month to remind us to be thankful for the many positive things happening in our lives”. Although we should continue to be thankful each day throughout the year, many use fall to slow down and be thankful for everything around them. Even if waking up is the only positive thing that happened in your day, you were given another day to start fresh and to do the things you wanted to do yesterday so, if nothing else, be thankful for that. As we approach Fall Break, I wanted to take a moment to share how thankful we are for all of you. We see your continued efforts each day, your creativity and your zest for learning. Thank you for continuing to trust us with your education. NCA is better because of you! Before we all head out for a week-long break, a few updates and reminders for you... ACT Boot Camp - Our next ACT Boot Camp is coming soon! If you weren’t able to attend the first two boot camps OR if you’d like to join again, please sign-up HERE. Hello NCA Bears! As we venture into this week ahead of us, it’s important to take a minute to think about everything happening around us. Life is hectic, time passes quickly and sometimes we are surrounded by so much negativity that we let it consume us. This week I invite you all to participate in World Kindness Day. Though World Kindness day is typically celebrated on one day, we are going to make it a week! Being kind doesn’t mean you have to go out and spend money. Lending a helping hand, holding the door open for someone, letting someone cut in front of you are just a few ways you can show kindness. These little things can cause a ripple effect and could brighten the world. Unsure about how you can participate? Visit this website for some ideas. Using this padlet, share an act of kindness that you did for someone else and remember this, "one act of kindess can change the world". November 22nd - 26th - Fall Break- School Closed/NCA Office Closed Welcome to November! November is Native American Heritage Month, or as it is commonly referred to, American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month. The month is a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native people. Did you know that there are hundreds of Native American languages spoken in the United States today—74 in the state of California alone? However, as the older generation of speakers pass on, many of these languages are at risk for extinction. Here are a few other interesting facts about the Native American culture: 1. "Most indigenous people in the U.S. use “American Indian,” while most indigenous people in Canada use “First Nations.” “Native Americans” or “indigenous Americans” are often used for people in both countries." 2. "Sacagawea (1788–1812) was a Lemhi Shoshone woman who helped the Lewis and Clark expedition as an interpreter and a guide. She traveled thousands of miles with them from North Dakota to the Pacific Ocean between 1804 and 1806." 3. "Native Americans would use porcupine hairs to make hairbrushes. Sometimes a stick was cut into the right shape and frayed at the edges to make a toothbrush." Click here to learn more!
