Hello NCA Bears! As we come to the end of September, I’d like to encourage you to take some time to assess yourself on the work you have put forth so far. Have you been able to stick to goals that you set for yourself at the beginning of the year? Are you keeping up with the weekly lesson requirements, attendance requirements and monthly contact requirements? It has been said that the most effective learners are "mindful of how they learn, set personal learning goals, regularly self-assess and adjust their performance, and use productive strategies to assist their learning." Be sure to take time each week to evaluate how you’re doing. Do you need additional support in your learning? Are you familiar with the resources available and teachers you can connect with for support? We are here to help you! Please let us know if you have any questions or if you need assistance with reaching your goals. Attendance- Attendance is a vital component of our school and must be consistently recorded. Attendance runs from Sunday-Saturday and will be collected through the form below each week. This will be recorded based on the attendance verification form AND lesson completion and will be confirmed by our Attendance Coordinator. Reminders will be sent each week to ensure you receive proper credit for the week. Complete your weekly attendance HERE! Also, please be sure you are selecting the correct Attendance Monitor to submit your attendance to. The name of your Attendance Monitor can be found on your homepage in the top right corner. Hello NCA Bears! I hope you had a fantastic weekend and are ready for the week ahead! Believe it or not, we only have two weeks left in September and only three until the end of the 1st quarter. Time is definitely flying! As we move into week 7, I wanted to share a few important reminders with you. -In order to earn full attendance hours for the week, you must complete the Weekly Attendance Verification form (shared below) AND completed 28 lessons. The lessons completed should be a combination of all of your courses. If you do not complete at least one lesson in each course, each week, you will be at risk for being reported as truant. -If you attempt to login one day and find that your login has been disabled, be sure to check your voicemails and/or text messages. Disabled accounts mean that someone on staff has been trying to reach out to you muliple times. Once you connect with that staff member, we will unlock accounts. Phone calls are part of the requirement to be a student at NCA. Please keep up with these each month. -Important information and dates are shared in my weekly webmails. Important dates and events can also be found on our School Events Calendar. If you have any questions about any of the reminders above, you are welcome to reach out to any NCA staff member. Focus Group Participation - On September 27th, our authorizer – the State Public Charter School Authority - will be conducting a Site Evaluation. Site Evaluations, required by law, allow the SPCSA to assess schools’ student achievement, progress to goals, and fulfillment of their mission, vision, and educational program outlined in their charter. Part of Site Evaluations include Focus Groups with stakeholders, including staff, students and Caretakers. Focus Groups will take place in LiveLesson with the evaluating team on September 27th. The times are as follows: Caretaker Focus Group: 1:30pm- 2:00pm Student Focus Group: 2:00pm - 2:30pm. NCA Staff will not be in the focus group, and participant names will not be identified on the SPCSA report. August 29th - September 9th - Fall Benchmark Assessments (Grades 9 & 10) September 1st - December 22nd - 2023 Grad Senior Photo Appointment Info Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. Have a wonderful week! Hello NCA Bears! Resharing a message and resources I shared last year because of the importance of knowing about the events that took place on September 11, 2001. “On September 11, 2001, almost 3,000 people lost their lives during the attacks at the Twin Towers, Pentagon and aboard United Airlines Flight 93. At 8:46 a.m. ET, American Airlines Flight 11 (traveling from Boston to Los Angeles) hit the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. At 9:03 a.m. ET, United Airlines Flight 175 (traveling from Boston to Los Angeles) hit the south tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. At 9:37 a.m. ET, American Airlines Flight 77 (traveling from Dulles, Virginia, to Los Angeles) hit the Pentagon Building in Washington. And at 10:03 a.m. ET, United Airlines Flight 93 (traveling from Newark, New Jersey, to San Francisco) crashed in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.” Today, and every day, I am thankful for all the heroes that died on September 11th, those that are still here with us today and for the families that were affected. 9/11 Video 9/11 Memorial Timeline Zoom LiveLesson Room Entry - You may have difficulties entering LiveLesson sessions such as our upcoming Whole School Live Lesson if you haven’t set up your password. If you no longer see a link on your to-do list, please view the attached document for more information. You are also welcome to reach out to any of your teachers for your username and link to reset your password. This must be done prior to entering any LiveLesson room. Zoned School Extracurricular Participation - Did you know that even though you are a NCA student you can still participate in extracurricular activities at your zoned school?? All you need to do is contact your zoned school for more information and fill out the attached form. If you are already participating in extracurricular activities but haven’t completed the form, please do so and webmail me a completed copy. Zero Policy - As many of you are aware, your teachers enter in temporary zeros on a weekly basis for assignments that are a week or more overdue. This practice will continue throughout the school year.. Along with this, your teachers will also be entering permanent zeros for any portfolios that are two weeks overdue. Please note, “promise documents” and blank documents should not be uploaded any longer. The permanent zero will allow you to move forward with your lessons. Please also keep in mind that these assignments should still be completed and turned in as they are weighted heavily on your grade.
