Hello NCA Bears! As we approach the end of this week, you'll have completed a full month back at school. Time certainly has a way of racing by! How has your journey been this far? Have you encountered any challenges or found yourself making minor mistakes as a result of the occasional feeling of being overwhelmed?" Don’t worry! Mistakes are not stumbling blocks; they are stepping stones on your journey to success. Remember that every achievement is the result of countless errors, setbacks, and failures. It's easy to get discouraged when you make a mistake, but please know that this is a natural part of the learning process and take the following tips along with you: 1. **Embrace Mistakes:** Mistakes are proof that you are trying. They are opportunities to learn, grow, and improve. 2. **Learn from Every Mistake:** Each mistake carries a valuable lesson. Take the time to analyze what went wrong, why it happened, and how you can avoid it in the future. 3. **Persevere:** Success is not about avoiding mistakes; it's about having the determination to keep going despite them. 4. **Believe in Yourself:** Self-doubt often accompanies mistakes. But remember, you are capable of achieving great things. Believe in your abilities and the potential within you. Keep trying, keep learning, and keep growing. You've got this! Hello NCA Bears! Welcome to a fresh new week! I hope you all had a relaxing weekend and are ready to begin knocking out those lessons again. As we move into this week, I wanted to share a quick update with you regarding our Escalation System. Please take a moment to review the update below: On Wednesday, August 23rd, our Escalation System will be activated. You will begin seeing the icons with a status of On Track, Approaching Alarm, or Alarm on your homepage. Enrolled students are in one of these three statuses at all times. Each of these categories is based on several criteria outlined in the School Handbook and is a combination of measures that indicate if a student is demonstrating adequate participation in the program. This includes actual attendance hours, lesson and assessment completion rates and the amount of communication with the teacher. Please know that our system automatically updates these statuses, it is not something that we manually do on our end. The attached document provides more information. You can also reach out if you have any questions. Attendance - Attendance is a vital component of our school and must be consistently recorded. Attendance runs from Saturday-Friday and will be collected through this form each week. This will be recorded based on the attendance verification form and lesson completion and will be confirmed by our Attendance Coordinator. Reminders will be sent each week to ensure you receive proper credit for the week. Onboarding Sessions for New Learning Coaches - As shared last week, each week there will be a series of sessions for Learning Coaches. I will continue to provide reminders in my weekly webmails so you know what opportunities are available. The schedule of events can be found here. Be sure to register for the events you’d like to attend to save your spot. If you are unable to attend live, session recordings will be available on the Learning Coach Central site. August 28th - First Day of CSN Classes - Track 3 Only September 4th - Labor Day - No school September 5th - Benchmark Assessments - 9th and 10th grade As always, we are here to answer any questions that you may have. Enjoy your week! Hello NCA Bears! Welcome to a new week! I hope your weekend was filled with everything you needed it to be. We are just about two weeks into the semester, which means you should have 16% of each of your courses completed by the end of the week. How are you doing? Are you on track? Have you fallen behind? Take some time this week to assess your progress. Here’s a quick way to check: -Go into your grade book -Identify the column that says “Lesson Completion” -Identify the row that says “Lesson Completion” -This is where you will find how many lessons you’ve completed out of how many lessons you will be completing this semester per course. Next to it is the percent complete. This percentage should be 16% by the end of the week in order to be considered “on track”. Please note, if you did not start the semester with us on the first day of the semester, your percentage will be lower than 16%. If you need help determining your number, please reach out to your homeroom teacher. You can also use the Lesson Completion Chart that I shared with you last week. Click here to access it. Keeping an eye on your lesson completion throughout the semester will ensure that you remain on track and finish your courses by the end of the semester. Temporary Zeros - Starting Monday, August 21st, your teachers will be adding in temporary zeros for all overdue assignments. Entering temporary zeros will occur each Monday and will be added to assignments that are a week (or more) overdue. Please know that this is not something done to penalize students, it’s a practice we use to help students understand where their grades would be should they choose not to submit that particular assignment. Grades are not finalized until the semester has been completed and temporary zeros are removed once the assignment is completed. Onboarding Sessions for New Learning Coaches - Beginning today there will be a series of onboarding sessions for our new Learning Coaches. Take a look at the schedule of events here. Be sure to register for the events you’d like to attend to save your spot. If you are unable to attend live, session recordings will be available on the Learning Coach Central site. Driver’s Permit & License - Are you planning on getting your driver's permit or license soon? If so, you’ll need to bring the DMV Certification of Attendance - Form 301 - with you. This needs to be submitted to Cassandra Appleton prior to your appointment. Due to the large number of requests, she is unable to take last-minute requests. Please plan on submitting your request with plenty of time before your appointment (at least 48 hours in advance). See the attached document for more information. YOU are invited to participate in our Student Spotlight! You can submit information about yourself through the 2023-2024 Student Spotlight form. Caretakers and NCA Staff are also encouraged to send in Student Spotlights. All entries submitted prior to the end of the week will be included in the following weekly webmail.
