Hello NCA Bears! Welcome to your 4-day school week! This Friday, we'll be observing Nevada Day, which means school will be closed. However, if you're looking to catch up on your lessons or get ahead, you'll still have access to Pearson Online Classroom. Just keep in mind that our staff won't be available until Monday, October 30th. Nevada Day holds a special place in our hearts, commemorating Nevada's historic admission into the Union as the 36th state on October 31, 1864. It's a day that also pays homage to Nevada's rich frontier legacy. The first celebration of this important day dates back to 1873. In 1891, Governor Roswell Colcord declared October 31st a judicial holiday, but it wasn't until 1933 that legislation officially designated Nevada Day as a state holiday. Interestingly, Nevada Day was celebrated on October 31st until the year 2000 when the legislature passed a bill to move the celebration to the last Friday of October. This change was made to encourage more people to participate in the holiday by providing a three-day weekend for festivities. If you'd like to explore more about the history and significance of Nevada Day, click here. Attendance - Attendance is a vital component of our school and must be consistently recorded. I hope you had a relaxing weekend and are ready for a productive week! Today marks the 1st day of 2nd Quarter. It’s hard to believe that we’re halfway through the semester already! I would also like to bring your attention to National Stop Bullying Day, which falls on October 11th this year. National Stop Bullying Day serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of kindness, empathy, and inclusivity in all things. Bullying, as many of you are aware, includes physical, verbal, and cyberbullying, and it can have long-lasting effects on individuals' well-being. By promoting kindness and understanding, we can create a community, inside and outside of NCA, where everyone feels valued and respected. Here are a few actions you can take to make a difference: 1. Speak Up: If you witness bullying or harassment, do not hesitate to report it. 2. Support One Another: Be a friend to those who may be experiencing bullying. Your support can make a world of difference. 3. Lead by Example: Treat others with respect and kindness, both online and offline. Your actions will inspire others to do the same. As always, please reach out if you need extra support or if you have any questions. Attendance - Attendance is a vital component of our school and must be consistently recorded. Attendance runs from Saturday to Friday and will be collected through this form each week. This DOES NOT mean you should wait until Friday to fill out your attendance form. Please fill it out first thing Monday morning. Unsure how to fill out the form, click here for instructions. Progress Reports - Progress reports will be available to review on Friday, October 13th. To access your progress report, click the grade book and then click the link with the most current date under the “Progress Report” header. If you find that you have temporary zeros for incomplete assignments these assignments can still be completed. Progress reports are a great way to keep track of how you're doing and should give you an idea of what needs to be done in order to finish out the semester strong. Progress Report grades are not included on your transcripts unless they are credit recovery courses. If you're currently struggling in one (or more of your courses), you have until the end of the 2nd Quarter to bring those grades up. Don't procrastinate though, it will fly by just like the 1st Quarter did. Unanswered Webmails - Are you finding that you are not receiving responses to webmails? This may be due to a few different reasons. Please read through the tips below to ensure we receive your webmails successfully:

Have a wonderful week! Hello NCA Bears! As October begins, I’d like to take a moment to recognize and celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. This time allows us to recognize and appreciate the rich culture, history, and contributions of Hispanic and Latinx communities. It helps us all learn, appreciate, and embrace the diversity that makes our school vibrant and inclusive. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the Latino population in the United States has exceeded 60 million people, representing a remarkable 18.9% of the total population. This makes it the largest racial or ethnic group in our nation. I encourage all of you to take some time over the next couple of weeks to explore and learn more about the Hispanic culture. The National Museum of the American Latino website is a great place to start. You'll find resources, exhibits, and information that can help deepen your understanding and appreciation of the Hispanic heritage. Attendance - Attendance is a vital component of our school and must be consistently recorded. Attendance runs from Saturday to Friday and will be collected through this form each week.
